Cloudflight Acquires UX Design and Software Engineering Specialist macio

  • Cloudflight grows embedded software development and human-machine interface design capabilities with focus on industrial manufacturing and IIoT
  • Around 600 employees after merger

Munich, November 9, 2021 – Cloudflight, leading software development company and AI specialist, announces the acquisition of macio GmbH, a specialist in embedded software engineering and developer of intuitive customized human-machine interfaces (HMI).

With this merger, Cloudflight closes another gap in the entire digital transformation of its customers and delivers an end-to-end approach – from enhanced human-machine communication over scalable platforms up to highly customized software solutions. In addition, Cloudflight enhances its capabilities in the area of digitalization in manufacturing and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

The acquisition is planned to be closed in November 2021. Next to its existing offices, Cloudflight will have further sites in Düsseldorf, Kiel, Karlsruhe and Hamburg.

“The acceptance of new software very much depends on a simple and intuitive user experience; regardless whether users work directly on the machine, on an embedded device, with a mobile app or a desktop application. Intuitive HMIs (human-machine interfaces) help with highly complex applications as we see them in AI, making them comprehensible for the human user. Therefore, joining forces with macio presents a logical expansion of our capabilities. A warm welcome goes to our new team members”, comments Jörn Petereit, Managing Director and COO at Cloudflight.

“User Interface Design will now become part of the comprehensive Cloudflight portfolio, next to consulting, development, implementation, and the operation of AI-based cloud solutions. The Cloudflight offering now expands into the strategically important area of industrial manufacturing, IIoT, and embedded software, in addition to frontend design”, Eike-Christian Frerichs, M&A consultant for Cloudflight GmbH, emphasizes.

Through the merger with macio and after the acquisition of Cognostics, a significant player in an exciting and rapidly changing market with around 600 employees emerges; representing excellent fit, thematically, culturally and geographically. “At Cloudflight we find the same passion, motivation and enthusiasm for developing great software that we’ve always had at macio. Our joint portfolio opens new perspectives for our employees, a space to learn from one another, while giving our customers access to comprehensive solutions from one single source,” says Alexander Friedel, Managing Director of macio GmbH.
