IT career in Cluj
Andrei had to get up every day at 6:30 to catch the train from his small town to be able to study mathematics and informatics in high school. While it was not always easy , learning was his passion, so he was happy to do it. His dedication eventually paid off and after graduation he got accepted to a university in Cluj. This Romanian city is a booming hub for many IT companies and as he was studying computer science, it did not take long to get his first internship.
Over time the internship transformed into a full career. As a software developer Andrei was honing his Java skills and, as more people joined the company, he was there for them as a coach. He was celebrated as a respectable and invaluable employee. Gradually though, he started to realize that he was stuck in his comfort zone and did not grow as much as he should. It became clear that he would soon need a new, more dynamic challenge. It was then when he learned about Cloudflight.
The new challenges
The challenge Andrei was looking for was to expand his coding knowledge outside of his skills in core Java in the direction of web development. A big part was to learn new frameworks like Spring, Angular or Hibernate. Then to understand how to work with databases. Andrei took full advantage of the learning balance – an individual time and budget initiative for learning and development – and advanced quickly.
But there was another hurdle he had to overcome on his new journey. One that Andrei feared the most. After many years in a different company, could he fit with the new team on the personal level and build new friendships? In the very first week Andrei joined an evening roof BBQ. He got to know everyone in the Cluj office and his fears immediately disappeared. Chilled beer, grilled burgers and a bunch of friendly people. It was that simple. A few weeks later, during the hiking trip to Arieșeni mountains, he got to know his new colleagues even closer. There are plenty of opportunities to get to meet others every month, from big birthday celebrations to just grabbing a drink from the fridge and casually hanging out.
Today Andrei focuses on being an even better software engineer. He has made new friends at Cloudflight and is happy he joined us. And we too are happy to have him.
