Love what you work on
Paul studied math and computer science in Vienna and for his MA thesis he decided to solve an item identification problem for the Lost property offices using artificial intelligence. It was not your typical AI code, but rather a concept he calls “Mixed Intelligence”, where human brain and AI help each other to sort and validate faster. His first experience with AI turned out well, as he successfully defended his thesis and just like that a new passion was born.
In 2019 Paul joined Cloudflight as an AI specialist. Since then, he constantly improved his knowledge and became an invaluable member of the team in his project work. He was quite busy in his spare time too, in 2020 and 2021 he scored among top 3 contestants in Data Science Challenge and the NetHack Challenge and got to share his experience and passion in the NeurIPS and World AI congresses.
Don’t be shy to have fun
What makes Paul really unique is his expertise, combined with the ways he makes working fun for himself and all the colleagues. He likes to start every project by writing and performing a song. In his retrospectives teammates do not ask “OK, how can we improve next time”, but they go on a quest together to find out. Together they defeat a hydra that produces bugs to level up their characters. After every sprint, he and his companions have a “sprint break”, a little party to celebrate. And there are many other small things that make each day special.
Paul once tried to solve the infamous Fermat’s last theorem, in his spare time, but was ultimately unsuccessful. He talks about this with a big smile though, because very often to be happy and to have fun, the journey is more important than the destination. There are no dull days with Paul, and we are stoked to have an awesome guy like this in our community!
“Be exceptional, be the passion, be creative, be the change
No idea, no inspiration, will ever be out of range”
Lyrics from Paul’s B12BB12B#1 song.
