Cloudflight Coding Contest 2022 – Europe’s biggest programming contest keeps growing

Christina Becker

PR & Communications Manager

Munich, October 18th 2022 – Cloudflight, a leading full-service provider for industrial digital transformation, is once again hosting the Cloudflight Coding Contest (CCC for short), Europe’s largest on-site programming competition, on November 11th, 2022. This year, the contest will again take place in a hybrid fashion. Participating coders can demonstrate their skills remotely or at one of around 50 global venues in 13 countries. The event on November 11 is the 36th edition of the CCC since the contest made its debut in 2007 at Linz’s Johannes Kepler University.

Gamified competition across three disciplines

In the Cloudflight Coding Contest, thousands of programmers from all over the world compete simultaneously in a level-based coding game. The level of difficulty increases with each stage, and whoever reaches the highest level in the shortest time wins. The topics of the games will remain secret until the event.

The participants of the CCC can compete in three different disciplines. The event kicks off in the morning with the two-hour School Coding Contest, which targets specifically school pupils up to the age of 19. There are then two parallel competitions in the afternoon: In addition to the traditional Classic Coding Contest, which presents contestants an algorithmic game, since 2021 there has also been the AI Challenge, in which participants can solve a complex machine learning task. Participants can decide for themselves which programming language to use and whether they solve the tasks individually or in a team.

Cloudflight close to young talent worldwide

Attractive prizes await the winners again this year. In addition, interesting career opportunities within the organizing company will open up for many of them.

“Since 2007, the Cloudflight Coding Contest has been the event for young coders to playfully compete with the best in Europe and beyond. The CCC is also a real highlight for us every year, as it allows us to get in touch with thousands of young talents,” says Jörn Petereit, COO at Cloudflight. “We are particularly pleased that there are many new venues this year, and that the contest is thus growing year after year.”

The venues usually result from collaborations with universities, schools or other public institutions, but also from the commitment of private companies that want to support the competition and the local coding community. New locations this year are Kiel, Lübeck, Kassel, Assago (Italy), Kolding (Denmark) and Lisbon (Portugal).  In addition, macio and Divante are participating in the contest as hosts for the first time. Both companies have been part of Cloudflight for about a year.

If the CCC’s on-site events pose too high a risk of infection due to the development of the Corona pandemic in the fall, the contest will be realized as an online-only event.
