Much more than just technology

Study

348 total decision-makers that we trimmed down to 250 digitalization managers, all from the DACH area: This is the sample we surveyed in this study. The goal was to establish once and for all a definition of Cloud Native that is both theoretically correct and operationally usable.

With this definition, we then proceeded to analyze the answers from the aforementioned sample (which covered ten industries and six company sizes) to gather insights on what the present and the future of Cloud Native is.

Despite the lack of consent around how to define it, Cloud Native is being increasingly adopted by German companies, and the consequences for those left behind will be dire: in this study sponsored by IONOS by 1&1, we analyzed the answers of 250 decision-makers in the DACH area to give you the best recommendations on how to navigate Cloud Native adoption, and to provide a definitive definition of it.

The Present

As of 2022, companies have finally understood the importance of IT investments, and are increasing the budgets accordingly. In this context, large companies remain the early adopters and as such are seeing the advantages of making an early, cloud-related decision.

The Future

Holding back companies from fulfilling their Cloud potential are concerns regarding compliance, budgeting, and level of maturity within the company culture.

The counterbalance to this, however, is that decision-makers also consider Cloud Native as a driver for agility and an enabler of AI and ML. Cloud Native is thus seen as more of an opportunity, and the 43% of decision-makers that want to expand it in their company attest to that.

For the majority of companies, Cloud Native is an enabler of digital business models.

Recommendations

Along with Cloud Native, Open-Source software and the Public Cloud are gaining popularity – and along with them, so are also the regional Cloud providers in Europe.
